DID YOU KNOW?
THE NAME
Kambaba or kabamba is how this stone is reportedly known locally in Kabamba, which lies in the central-western Bongolava region in Madagascar. Some argue that it is named after Cheitharol Kumbaba, the court chronicle of the kings of Manipur (India), yet the origin of the name is heavily debated. It is also dubbed crocodile jasper.

THE SOURCE
Kambaba is sourced from both Madagascar and South Africa.
DID YOU KNOW?
THE ORIGIN
It has been argued that kambaba jasper is actually not jasper, but a fossil. Others have added to the discussion that it supposedly is a relatively newly-discovered exposure of a previously known, possibly volcanic material. Classified as a stromatolite referring to the clump of fossilized algae that created this mineral, its exact discovery date is unknown.
