MOONSTONE
EXPERIENCE HISTORY
SHIMMERING MOONSTONE
Have you ever found yourself lost in the sky? A variety of the feldspar group of minerals, moonstone’s hues range from milky blue to nebulous white, and from a light chocolate to vitreous transparent. Throughout the existential waves brought upon us by life’s ebb and flow, the beads’ lunar vigor prompts us to rely on the stable force of al-Mateen.

THE NAME
Some moonstones are characterized by what experts call adularescence, a term referring to the optical phenomenon of a white-blue light that seems to hover above them. Just like lunar light floating on water, this glow seemably moves when the gem is turned. The name moonstone is derived from this pale, billowy light. Since the Adula mountain range in Switzerland is where this stone is often found, it also goes by the name of adularia.

THE SOURCE
The most priced moonstones—of the transparent kind, with a blue sheen—were historically sourced in Myanmar but have unfortunately been mined out. Other mines are located in Australia, Austria, Finland, India, Madagascar, Mexico, Norway, Sri Lanka, Switzerland, Tanzania, and the United States.
