The Olive tree is considered by the Islamic tradition to be a tree of great blessing and spiritual symbolism.

The Quran calls it the ‘blessed tree’ and one that is in a sense otherworldly "neither of the East nor of the West". In the verse of Light, seen as one of the most central in the Holy Book, a parable is drawn regarding the Light of God in which the blessed olive tree is mentioned in terms that are venerating, to say the least [24:35].

The Holy Prophet ﷺ is reported to not only have praised the blessed nature of the olive tree but also strongly encouraged his community to benefit from its healing properties [Tirmidhi: 1775].

There are other reports from prior nations that indicate that the Olive tree was the first form of life to appear after the Great Flood. It is further reported that it first emerged in the Holy Land and then spread across the Mediterranean carrying the blessing of its first sprout across the region.

In some cultures, the olive tree is considered to be an ‘immortal tree’ because of its extreme longevity (100’s of years) and because new shoots develop at the base of the disappearing trunk and a new tree grows in its place.

When you hold in your hand olive wood prayer beads, you are not only establishing a connection with a tradition of Divine remembrance but also with a miraculous lineage of floral birth and rebirth leading back to the land of the Prophets and Sages.

It is befitting that an instrument that one treasures as a means to fulfill one’s most blessed endeavor, Zikr, to be crafted from the most blessed tree known to man: the olive tree.
